Commodore’s Notes September 2015

The September general committee meeting opened with guest speaker Het Ramp from the Lorne Community Hospital. Het shared with us the results of the mental health survey which was conducted in our town. The main issues that stood out –

  1. Suicide prevention   2. Alcohol and drugs    3. Stress management

It was agreed that when people are well connected to their community they are much healthier.

Friday 9th October – Lorne School – 12.30 – all members are invited to join in RUOK Day and share lunch and create a community picture of the slogan.

Love Lorne Performing Arts weekend – a great success and the LAAC would like to be further involved in 2016.

All members will be invited to the AGM  to view this first draft plan of the new building design/layout.

Commodore’s Notes – August 2015

The August general committee meeting scheduled Bob Sinclair (Architect) to present proposed drawings of a new clubhouse. The conceptual drawings show the importance of the location through the external facade and the internal layout, whilst aiming to be similar to our current design which helps to provide the unique LAAC atmosphere. On Saturday, August 29th the sub committees will again meet to further discuss finances and design.

The GORCC has committed $45,000 of the 15/16 budget towards the preparation of a business case for the plan. This is an important step in securing extra funding for the project. Additionally, GORCC has allocated another $450,000 to the eventual Pt Grey Plan from this year’s budget. IN TOTAL $1.5 MILLION HAS BEEN SET ASIDE FOR THIS STAGE.
Please go to www.gorcc.com.au for further information.

Footy Tipping – Jamie Kerr continues to lead our competition. He is 5 ahead of his nearest rival.

Bendigo Community Bank – Lorne Branch is our major sponsor for 2015 – 16.

Love Lorne – Arts Festival. All members are reminded of the forthcoming weekend –August 28/29/30. There will be over 4000 people expected to visit Lorne for this annual event by the sea. The LAAC will host ‘The Barkers Vale Brothers’ on Sunday afternoon from 3pm, followed by local band – Children of the Sun. Dusty’s Canteena (serving tasty tacos) will be available during this event.

Commodore’s Notes – July 2015

Winter has certainly arrived in Lorne with rain and cold southerly winds.  History tells us that July and August are the quietest months of the year for the LAAC.

Our regular fishing competitions, Saturday night raffles and the footy tipping competition continue to be the winter highlights.  The current leader of the footy tipping comp is Jamie Kerr.

The scheduled July monthly committee meeting was cancelled due to no agenda items and the continued commitment being made by some committee members to the sub-committee structure for our redevelopment.

Currently, the Building/Design group is completing a draft plan of a possible building layout. Once finalized, a 3 dimensional computer generated plan will be developed for member feedback.  We need to have a plan on paper to begin this process of appraisal.

Members of the Finance sub-committee are investigating avenues of finance/grants.  A meeting will be convened shortly so that members can share their findings.

RESULTS OF THE WINTER FISHING COMPS. NO. 3 & 4 ARE ON THE FISHING COMP. PAGE

Stay warm!
